Personal Recount on Total Defence Day
In one of the school events that I've enjoyed myself was on the fifteen of February, when our school commemorated Total Defence Day by having a fire drill, followed by a performance in the hall. When everyone heard of the news of having a fire drill, everyone started complaing, but they didn't realised that it was actually important, just in case of an emergency.
When the fire drill alarm went off at 12.15pm, everyone started rushing out of the classroom and started lining up in two straight rows, and we were led down to the field where everyone assembled there. In the field, everyone line up in a single row according to the arrangement of our class and the order of our register number. Our teacher started taking down attendance and asked us to squat down after our names were being called out.
When everyone had settled down, the teachers started dismissing us as we were supposed to go to the hall for a performance. The National Cadet Corps performed first, acting out the scene of the war that took place in the 20th century, followed by the students in the Red Cross Youth who had a presentation and a video clip on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We were thought on how and when to apply it when necessary.
On that day, I had learnt alot on social awareness and about doing our part for Singapore, being loyal and defending our country and social awareness, which is about being acceptable in the society and to know in which manner we should act. I also learnt the five key aspects of Total Defence which are military, civil, economic, social and psychological defence.
