Picture Discussion 2

This picture is taken at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. There is a large crowd and everyone is holding their cameras in the air to take photos of the last train that is leaving the railway station at that moment. They gathered there as the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station is going to be demolished and taking pictures of the last train would give them great and unforgettable memories that they had in the railway station.
The face expressions of the crowd really shows how much memories they had in there. They seem really upset and disappointed that a place that existed from their childhood was going to be demolished very soon. They must have thought, 'Why is this place going to be demolished? This is such a wonderful place! I really hope that they do not demolish this place!'
Previously, the trains in the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station were linked all the way to the capital of Malaysia, which is Kuala Lumpur. Now, the government has plans of further development of the land but the main building would still be conserved. Operations ended permanently on 30 June 2011 and the Woodlands Train Checkpoint took over as terminus for KTM's Singapore services from 1 July 2011.

Picture Discussion 1

There are many people are choosing the textbooks which is needed for their children. The people there are mostly middle-age woman who look like housewives in their 30s and 40s. They probably need some financial assistance from the government or the school.

All the books are all over the table and they did not take the initiative to place the books back to its original places. As all the books are scattered all over the table, there may be much difficulties for the other people to find the books that they need. They can actually solve this problem by hiring volunteers or helpers to help to place the books back neatly after a certain time, or even kindly ask the parents to place the books back neatly to its original places.

There is an Indian lady at the foreground of the picture. She is wearing a long sleeve shirt with her daughter and they seem to have difficulties finding the books that her daughter needs. I think she was also grateful to the generous people who donated their books to the second hand textbook for the sales.

It is very expensive to buy books for their children every year although as they have some financial difficulties that they cannot cope with. I think the parents there have already prepared a book list of what their children need and they can just search the books immediately once they are at the sales. The fortunate people living in Singapore should help the less fortunate more often and try their best to do what they can do as these small donations can actually make the less fortunate very happy and we can actually help them a lot by saving money to buy their daily necessaties, instead of buying books.

My Choice For The 2011 Presidential Election

If I had a chance to vote in the upcoming presidential election on 27 August 2011, I would vote for Dr Tony Tan as he is a highly knowledgable and respectable man, and he has many experiences in working for the government.

Dr Tony Tan has many working experiences in working for the government and banks. He was the former deputy prime minister, the chairman of the People's Action Party and also the former chairman and chief executive of OCBC bank. He was invited to join the People's Action Party and had a position of a chairman in there. This proves that even the government knows that he is capable of managing the People's Action Party and Singapore.

In my opinion, among all the four eligible contenders which are Dr Tan Cheng Bok, Dr Tony Tan , Mr Tan Kin Lian and Mr Tan Jee Say, Dr Tony Tan is still the most favourite contender as there are many people in the public who supports him.

In terms of experiences and qualifications, the four of the contenders received a cerfiticate of eligibility. However, Mr Andrew Kuan and Mr Ooi Boon Ewe did not receive their cerfiticates as they did not meet the constitutional requirements of their equivalent in experience and qualifications.

Topic: Water Conservation

Water conservation refers to reducing the usage of water and recycling of waste water for different purposes such as cleaning, manufacturing, agricultural and irrigation. Through research on water conservation, I realised that the amount of water on Earth are really limited. The majority of the Earth's water is contained in the oceans and seas, and only three percent of Earth's water is freshwater. In the three percent of the freshwaters, seventy - nine percent is frozen is glaciers and ice caps in the Noth and South Poles, twenty percent is groundwater, and only one percent is accessible surface water. Of that small amount of accessible surface freshwater, fifty - three percent is in rivers and streams, and eight percent in the atmosphere.

Till now, there are many people who do not realise the importance of conserving water. They do not use it wisely and waste water. Many people would ask, "Why do we need to save water since water in constantly cleaned and recycled?" The reason is because when you play a part in conserving water, you help to save energy and the environment. We can actually conserve water by turning off the water taps when not in use, flush the toilet only when necessary, wash the clothes when you have full load, stop leakages and shorten your showers! Just by doing these, you have already conserved a few gallons of water!

Now, I have understood the meaning of water conservation and I would play a part to start conserving water to help the environment!
